Last week I had a very interesting conversation with a young and upcoming engineer who I worked with in the past decade. His first input was that there are insufficient opportunities for him. And hence he wanted to go look for a new opportunity. At the surface what he indicated seemed convincing. As I dug into the situation, it became clear that one of the challenges is about how people think through a situation.
In my career, I had firmly believed in a world filled with opportunities that is only waiting to be discovered. One of the quotes attributed to the famous physicist, Richard Feynman, comes to my mind, “There is plenty of room at the bottom”. He meant it when talking to sub-atomic particle research. This often meant even in the minutest of the minutest world of well researched physics of sub-atomic world, there is plenty to be discovered and understood.
Many of us have heard that opportunities all over the place. And it is up to us to go look for these. Sometimes the opportunities show up easily; sometimes it may require intense look and understanding. And sometimes we may need expert guides to lead us there. In all walks, openness and alertness always produce plentiful bounty. Go looking!
