Completed 2017 Seattle Half Marathon – Slow and Steady

After 8 years, today I ran the Seattle Marathon half marathon course. My goal was to complete the course with no injury and in good shape. And indeed I completed it well. This is my fourth half-marathon run in my entire life and all these came in the past decade.

The pace came in at 2:52 as per official bib check. Personally I know that I had a few breaks in the middle which probably puts me at a completion within 2:45. I am glad that this is close to the expected completion time of 2:40 that I had for this Seattle Half Marathon course. This half marathon course has two big hill climbs and downhill runs. These were challenging for my left ankle and right outer knee. Nonetheless there was no injury.

Thanks to all of the volunteers who made this event fun and enjoyable. At the recovery zone there were nearly a hundred volunteers along with product companies giving away hot soup, hot chocolate, tea, coffee, drinks, fruit packets, sandwich (didn’t know that Sara Lee had 2 slice pack of bread), and of course bananas! It made the running much easier and I was well fed.

With all these facilities, I wonder why we do not get off and run regularly. There was a person who was running his 1,999th marathon (yes, it is his one thousand and nine hundred and ninety-ninth marathon!). Somehow the , , , and have made it easy to watch more TV. Getting off the couch is challenging. How about we strive to do a long distance run for every 100 hours watched?

At the minimum my family is inspired. My 7-year-old just completed his second Seattle Kids Marathon yesterday. He plans to do a 5K run in the spiring 2018.
